Lesson 4 – Working with Resources

Project 2013

U SING R ESOURCES

Discussion

Resources are the people, equipment and supplies that are used to perform the tasks defined in a project plan. In a project, you can add resources, assign resources to tasks, add cost and scheduling information for the resources and then monitor the work and costs of each resource. You create resources in the Resource Sheet view, which displays resource information in a table format. In this view, each column represents a different field in which you can enter data and each row represents a different resource entry.

In Microsoft Project 2013, there are three types of resources: 1. Work Resources, 2. Material Resources 3. Cost Resources.

A work resource is a person or a piece of equipment that works to complete a task.

A material resource is a supply or other consumable item used to complete a task. For example, if the task is to install windows in a house, the laborer installing the windows is a work resource and the windows are material resources.

A cost resource is similar to a fixed resource except that it can have variable values for different assignments. Airfare is a good example since its cost varies depending on the options selected.
