Discussion

You can set options on the Save page in the Options dialog box to control how your project files are saved. You can set the default format for project files as well as specify the default locations in which you want project files stored. By default, Microsoft Project saves files in the Project (.mpp) format; however, you can choose another format, such as Project 2000 - 2003 (.mpd) , as desired. You can also enable Auto Save, which is disabled by default. When you enable this option, you can set Microsoft Project to automatically save your project at a specified interval, such as every 10 minutes. This feature can be selected to save the current project file only or all open files. In addition, Microsoft Project will prompt you before changes to your file(s) are saved. If you do not want to be prompted before saving, you can disable the Prompt Before Saving option. Microsoft Project will then automatically save the changes to your file at the specified interval. However, the only indication that this process is taking place is a brief save message in the status bar.
