Procedures

1. Open the desired table in Design view. 2. Select the field you want to index. 3. Select the Indexed property. 4. Select the Indexed list. 5. Select the desired indexing option.

Step-by-Step

Create a single field index.

Open the Orders table in Design view.

Steps

1. Select the field you want to index. Field properties appear below the table. 2. Select the Indexed field property. The insertion point appears in the Indexed property and an arrow appears to the right of the property.

Click the Order Number field, if necessary

Click in the Indexed field property

3. Select the Indexed list.

Click Indexed

A list of indexing options appears.

4. Select the desired indexing option. The indexing option appears.

Click Yes (Duplicates OK)

Save changes to the design of the table and view the table in Datasheet view. Notice that the records are sorted in ascending order by the Order Number field. Switch back to Design view.
