V IEWING THE WBS C ODES
Discussion
A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical organization of tasks that uses codes to show which tasks are required to complete the next highest level of tasks. Basically, it is a numbered outline of the project. The default WBS codes are the outline numbers assigned by Microsoft Project. You can also create your own custom WBS codes, if desired.
The following example illustrates a work breakdown structure:
1 Create Plan 2 Get Plan Approval 3 Renovate Conference Room 3.1 Paint Board Room
3.1.1 Paint Trim 3.1.2 Paint Walls 3.1.3 Paint Doors
4 Trim Conference Room
When you add, delete, or move tasks, the default WBS codes are automatically updated. In addition, when you indent or outdent tasks, the default WBS codes change appropriately.
