Lesson 2 – Assigning Permissions and Access Rights

NOTE To test permissions you will verify that a developer, JonD, is restricted from accessing the site, and that a developer project manager, ShellyS, has permissions to access the site. You will also verify that one of the QATester IDs has access to the site.

b) On the Site Settings page, under Users and Permissions, select Site permissions. c) On the ribbon, with the PERMISSIONS tab selected, in the Check group, select Check Permissions to display the Team Site Home: Check Permissions dialog box. d) In the User/Group box, type JonD and select JonD from the Autocomplete box. Then select Check Now.

e) Observe that the permissions result for JonD is None. JonD is a developer, but not a member of the Development Project Managers group, so he should have no permissions on the site. f) Clear the User\Group box, and type ShellyS and select ShellyS from the Autocomplete box. Then select Check Now. g) Observe that the permissions result for ShellyS is Edit. ShellyS is a Development Project Manager and should have Edit permissions on the site. h) Clear the User\Group box and type QATester# and select Check Now. Where # is your student number. i) Observe that the permissions result for QATester1 is Edit. QATester# is a user that needs Edit permissions on the site. j) Select Close to close the Team Site Home: Check Permissions dialog box. k) In the Quick Launch, select Home to return to the Team Site Home page.
