but keep the same amount of work.

Notice that the duration of the task changes to an estimated 1.5 days . Switch to the Task Usage view. Notice that the Draft Proposal task still requires 24 hours of work; however, instead of 24 hours of work being assigned to the Contracting Specialist , 12 hours of work are assigned to each resource. Return to the Gantt Chart view.

Practice the Concept: Add the Backhoe resource to the 13 Dig Foundation task. Close the Assign Resource dialog box. Click on the Smart Tag indicator to view the list. Since the backhoe will not change the duration, but is a work resource, select the Increase the amount of work but keep the duration option from the smart tag list.

Use the same option to add the Backhoe to the 14 Smooth Foundation task.

Discussion

You can remove a resource assignment at any time. Before you remove a resource assignment, you need to switch to a task view, such as the Gantt Chart view. When you remove an assignment, the resource remains in the resource list, but it is no longer assigned to the selected task. Since Microsoft Project defaults to effort-driven scheduling, the duration of the task may be affected when you remove a resource.

When you remove a resource, a smart tag appears prompting you to select how the removal of the resource should affect the task.

NOTE

You can also replace a resource assigned to a task with a different resource using the Replace button in the Assign Resources dialog box.
