Lesson 5 – Working with Baselines

NOTE

You can also add selected tasks to a baseline using the Set Baseline dialog box. Select the tasks you want to add, and then select the Project ribbon, the Set Baseline button, the Set Baseline... command, and then the Selected tasks option. Select OK and then Yes to overwrite the current baseline. When you use the Set Baseline dialog box to add selected tasks to a baseline, options to roll up the changed tasks to the baseline summary tasks become available.

Procedures

1. Save an original baseline, if necessary.

2. Make the desired changes to the project plan.

3. Click the Project tab.

4. Select the task you want to correct or add to the baseline.

Step-by-Step

Update tasks in a baseline.

Switch to the Gantt Chart view; apply the Cost table, if necessary; and drag the split bar as far right as possible.

Notice that the Fixed Cost field for the 8 Obtain Permits task displays $500.00 . Change the Fixed Cost for cost of the Obtain Permits task to $400 . Notice that the Variance field displays ($100.00) .
