Link tasks.
If necessary, select the Task ribbon.
Steps
Practice Data
1. Select two or more consecutive tasks you want to link. The tasks are selected.
Drag to select the 2 Conduct Site Survey task through the 8 Complete Planning Phase task.
2. On the Task ribbon in the Schedule group, select the Link Tasks button . Link lines appear in the Gantt chart linking the tasks and the start and finish dates for the linked tasks adjust accordingly.

Practice the Concept: Use the Link Tasks button to create a Finish-to-Start relationship for the following tasks:
• Link the 11 Dig Foundation and 12 Pour Foundation tasks • Link the 14 Frame House through 16 Build Deck tasks • Link the 18 Plumbing task through the 21 Drywall task
Notice that the durations for the Build Foundation and Construct Frame summary tasks now reflect the total duration of the subtasks. Scroll the Gantt chart to view the links.
Select the 8 Complete Planning Phase task and on the Tasks tab in the Editing group click the Scroll to Task button to view on the Gantt bar.
L INKING S UMMARY T ASKS
Discussion
Link summary tasks just as you link other task types. Linking summary tasks provides you with a good visual aid for viewing task relationships. Hide the subtasks to clearly view the link line between the summary tasks.
