Lesson – Scheduling Tasks

Select the 14 Frame House task and, on the Task tab, use the Scroll to Task button to view the Gantt bar. Notice the link line between the 14 Frame House and 15 Frame Garage tasks.

1. Select the tasks you want to unlink. The tasks are selected.

In the Tasks Name column, drag to select the 14 Frame House and 15 Frame Garage tasks.

2. Click the Unlink Tasks icon .

Click .

The link line disappears, the tasks are unlinked, and the start and finish times of the affected tasks adjust accordingly.

Scroll as necessary to view the change in the task relationships.

Practice the Concept: Select the 9 Build Structure and 17 Build Infrastructure tasks and unlink them. Link the 14 Frame House with 18 Plumbing tasks with a Finish-to- Start relationship.

Discussion

As you create and link new tasks, you may find that you need to change the relationship between them. Change task relationships in the Task Dependency dialog box, which opens when you double-click the link line between two related tasks.

You can also change the relationship between tasks with the Task Information dialog box. If you open the Task Information dialog box for the successor task, use the options on the Predecessors page to modify an existing relationship or create a new one.
