Discussion

Some material resources have fixed costs. Create material resources with fixed costs in the Resource Sheet view just as you do other material resources. However, for fixed cost material resources, you do not enter a material label. In addition, the amount you enter in the Std. Rate is the fixed resource cost, not the cost per unit of measurement. After creating the fixed cost material resource, assign it to the desired task. When you assign the resource to the task, select the resource name, since a unit value does not apply as it does for work resources and material resources with per unit costs. The Unit field for fixed cost resources reflects a 1 , which is the default value for material resources. It is important that not to change the Units value or the costs will increase. If you need to make changes to a fixed cost, do so in the Std. Rate field for the resource.

Since fixed cost material resources do not impact the schedule, the duration of the task does not change when you assign the resource. Likewise, if the duration changes, the resource cost for the task remains fixed. You can assign resources with fixed costs to tasks that have other resources assigned to them.
