Lesson 4 – Adding and Configuring Lists

Column validation is configured by editing the column properties and validates entries made to that specific column, when the user attempts to save the item. You can specify column validation on any column in a list that supports validation such as number, single line of text, and others. Column validations are typically used to ensure that the data entered in a column meets the criteria for data associated with that column. List and library validation is configured on the settings page for the list or library, in the validation settings configuration object. Only one validation can be set for a list or library. List and library validation often validates the data entry for the entire item, comparing columns to each other to verify the item meets criteria to be considered valid. For example, in an employee information list, list validation might make sure that the employee start date was later than the employee hire date.
