Lesson 3 – Configuring Site Settings, Navigation and Search
ACTIVITY: A DD A L INKS LIST . Before You Begin You should be logged into your Human Resources site. Scenario
The Human Resources needs to provide a large list if online resources without cluttering up the Quick Launch. In this activity, you will add a Links list and add it’s web part to the home page. NOTE: If you already added an Employee Resources links list in a previous lesson, skip to Step 3 .
1) Add and rename an Employee Resources links list. a) In SharePoint, select Site contents from the Quick Launch. b) Under List, Libraries and other Apps, select add an app . c) Select the Links tile. d) In the Name field, type resources . e) Click Create . f) In the Quick Launch, under Recent, click resources . g) Click the List tab and click the List Settings button. h) Under General Settings, click List name, description and navigation . i) Clear out the Name field and type Employee Resources . j) In the Display this document library on the Quick Launch? field, select Yes . k) In the Quick Launch, click Employee Resources . Type the Web address: http:// www.opm.gov ii) Type the description: U.S. Office of Personnel Management iii) Notes: We follow OPM's operation status. Please review their status to determine if our office will open. c) Click Save . 3) Add the Links List web part to the homepage. a) In the Top Link bar, click HR Home . b) Click the Page tab. c) Click Edit . d) Click the title of the Documents web part and press the Right Arrow on your keyboard. e) Click the Insert tab and click the App Part button. f) Under Parts , select the Employee Resources library and click Add on the bottom-right. g) Select FORMAT TEXT-'Edit-' Save. S UMMARY In this lesson, you configured site search settings so that user searches would yield the best results.
