Discussion

You can easily track a task that is on schedule using the Mark on Track button on the Task ribbon, Schedule group. When Microsoft Project updates a task as scheduled, it uses the status date (or current date if a status date has not been set) to track progress. You can update completed tasks and tasks that are still in progress. A task that is in progress is one that has started but has not yet finished, and can be ahead of schedule, on schedule, or behind schedule. If a task is in progress, it will have a percent complete value between zero and 100. When you update a task as scheduled, Microsoft Project copies the scheduled date for the task into the Act. Start field for the task. It also estimates the percentage and amount of completed work for the task using the current date you entered and the start date of the task. It calculates the number of days between these two dates and divides that number by the total length of the task to calculate the percent complete value.
