A SSIGNING A P ER -U SE C OST TO A R ESOURCE
Discussion
You can assign a per-use cost to both work resources and materials resources. However, the per-use cost is calculated differently for each resource type. The per- use cost is added to the sum of the other resource charges, such as standard rate and fixed resource costs, for a resource cost total.
For work resources, the per-use cost is added one time for each unit of a work resource assigned to any task. For example, you assign a per-use cost of $50 to the Plumber resource. If two plumbers are assigned to a task, the total per-use cost would be $100.00 ($50 per use of the plumber resource x 2 plumbers). If the resource is only used for a minute or used for three days, the per-use cost is still applied. For material resources, the per-use cost is only assigned once to a task in which the material resource is used. The per-use cost, then, does not depend on the amount of the resource being used. For example, there is a delivery charge of $50 for concrete. Concrete is used in two tasks; therefore, even if 100 yards of concrete are used, the per-use charge is only applied once to each task. The total per-use cost applied to the concrete resource is $100 ($50 per use x 2 tasks).
