Lesson 3 – Assigning Costs

Switch to the Resource Sheet view and scroll to the bottom of the resource list. Notice that there are five material resources without material labels and with significant amounts in the Std. Rate field. Also notice that all five resources belong to the Fixed Cost group.

Switch to the Gantt Chart view. Split the window to display the Task Form view in the bottom pane. Activate the bottom pane and click the Format tab. Click the Cost icon in the Details group.

1. Select the task in the top pane to which you want to assign a fixed resource cost. The desired task is selected. 2. Click in the Resource Name field in the bottom pane.

Scroll as necessary and click the 19 Install Roof task in the top pane.

Click below the Roofer resource in the bottom pane.

The first empty cell in the Resource Name field appears with a border and a down arrow.

3. Select the Resource Name list. The resource name appears in the bottom pane. 4. Select the desired material resource assigned a fixed cost. The resource is selected.

Click ResourceName

Scroll as necessary and click Roofing Materials.

5. Select OK .

The material resource is assigned to the task, a 1 appears in the Units field, and the fixed resource cost appears in the Cost field.

Notice that the duration of the task is still one week since material resources do not impact the schedule. Also notice that the Units field displays a 1 .

Use the Duration spin box in the bottom pane to change the duration of the Install Roof task to 2 weeks and select OK . Notice that the cost for the Roofer resource increased since the amount of work required increased; however, the fixed resource cost (Roofing Materials) did not change. Change the duration of the task back to 1 week .
