A SSIGNING C OSTS R ESOURCE

Discussion

Costs are generally variable or fixed. Resource costs are variable and vary with duration. Material costs are fixed and do not vary. You also have a class of cost that are fixed, they do not vary with duration, but are variable from one instance to another. Travel cost, room costs, permits and fees are like this. From one trip to another the coast are fixed for that task but vary between tasks. Cost resources are a way to deal with this.

After creating the cost resource, you need to assign it to the desired task. When you assign the resource to the task, you simply select the resource name and assign a cost.

Since cost resources do not impact the schedule, the duration of the task does not change when you assign the resource. Likewise, if the duration changes, the resource cost for the task remains fixed. You can assign cost resources to tasks that have other resources assigned to them.
