Lesson 4 - I NTEGRATING WITH M ICROSOFT O FFICE
Lesson Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Lesson Objectives In this lesson, you will:
• Access, create, save, and preview documents in SharePoint directly from Microsoft Office applications. • Manage document versions through Office 2013. • Synchronize content from SharePoint to Microsoft Outlook. L ESSON I NTRODUCTION Microsoft® Office applications are designed to integrate with SharePoint so that users can easily access documents stored in SharePoint®. There are a number of integration points between SharePoint and Microsoft Office applications. In this lesson, you will use integration features built into Microsoft Office applications to access documents in SharePoint, use document versioning features and document check-out features, and synchronize data from SharePoint to Microsoft® Outlook®. The goal of these integration points is threefold. First, to ensure that accessing data in SharePoint is as easy as accessing data on the local client or any file server. Second, to service core collaboration features in Microsoft Office applications at times and in ways that make sense when working with documents. Third, to provide flexibility to individuals and allow them to work with the applications that they choose, and their documents in the way that works best for them. These integration points allow Microsoft Office applications and SharePoint to work very well when used together.
