ACTIVITY: S ECURING D OCUMENTS , L IBRARIES AND L ISTS

Before You Begin You should be logged into your team site, and have the Team Site home page open. Scenario Now that you have configured site-level permissions, there are some other objects that need to be secured in the site. You want to prohibit QA Team members from editing site pages, and you need to secure a specific document in the document library. In this activity, you will secure site pages, documents, and lists.

1) Verify permissions for members of the QA Testers group.

NOTE The first step in securing these site objects is to verify the permissions and access that users of the QA Team have. You will test to see if they can edit site pages and open a sensitive document in the Document library.

a) Minimize SharePoint, and open the Windows 8 Start page. Switch user accounts and log in as QATester# (where # is your student number) with the password password12!. b) On the Windows Start Page, select the Desktop tile to switch to desktop mode. c) From the taskbar, open Internet Explorer and browse to http://sharepoint/sites/teams/. d) On the far right of the ribbon, select Edit. e) Observe the controls on the ribbon FORMAT TEXT tab. All the controls are available. f) On the ribbon, select the INSERT tab. g) In the Parts group, select Web Part to open the add web part interface. h) Select Cancel to close the add web part interface. i) In the Quick Launch, select Home to close edit mode and return to the Team Site Home page.

NOTE The QATester# user was able to edit the home page. QA Testers need contributor access to the site, but you don't want them to be able to edit pages.

2) Test permissions accessing a sensitive document.

NOTE Now you will test access to a sensitive document in the Team Documents library.
