Lesson 3 – Adding and Configuring Libraries
SharePoint 2016
TOPIC C: C ONFIGURE A DVANCED AND R ATING S ETTINGS You want to restrict users from creating folders and connecting a library to offline services. You also want to ensure documents in that library do not show up as search results. However, you would like to allow users to rate items. In this topic, you will configure advanced and rating library settings. A DVANCED S ETTINGS The Advanced settings group allows you to configure content and search operations in the list or library. The advanced settings include the following features: default document templates, how documents are opened, search, and editing options. Advanced settings contains the following configuration settings:
SETTING
DESCRIPTION
Content Types
Select to enable or disable management of content types in the library. Each content type will appear on the New button and may have a unique set of columns, workflows, and other behaviors.
Document Template The document template to be used by default when creating new documents in the library. You can edit the template by selecting the link below the box.
Opening Documents in the Browser
Specify to open documents in the client application, in a browser, or to use the server default setting configured by the Site Collection administrator. If the client application is not available, SharePoint will always attempt to open content in the browser. The Send To command appears on the menu for each document in the library. You can add a custom destination to that menu list by typing the name and URL here. You might configure this if your team works on draft versions of documents in one library and publishes them to a different library for general consumption. For example, the engineering team might work on draft copies of product specifications in their team site Document library, and might publish major versions to the Corporate Document library. Enable or disable the New Folder command. Default is Yes , meaning users can create folders and use folders to organize content. Some site owners prefer flat file structures and choose to disable folders. If you feel a set of documents is difficult to find due to folder navigation, consider creating a new Document library, moving the documents to that library, and disabling the Folders setting.
