Lesson 4 – Adding and Configuring Lists
SharePoint 2016
CONFIGURATION SETTING Require that this column contains information Enforce unique values
DESCRIPTION
Allows you to specify that the column must have a value. If it does not, the user will not be able to save new items containing the column until it is populated. Forces values entered in the column across all items to be unique. The SharePoint Comparison algorithm is case sensitive meaning "Hello" is different from "hello". Uniqueness can aid in indexing and other data entry scenarios. This option is only available for single line of text, choice, number, currency, date/time, lookup, person or group, and title. Applies to text columns, allows you to specify how many characters of text may be entered. Allows you to configure a default value for the column that is entered automatically. Add the column to all content types associated with the list (you must have enabled management of content types in Advanced Settings for the list).
